OpenID auth suddenly broke in WP3.0 (it was working fine in 2.9) and since I noticed you had it installed also, I thought I'd try and see if yours worked.

As for he increased RAM usage, are you using the same image you used on your previous VPS host? If not, the Apache, MySQL and PHP settings could be the reason. Are there more Apache modules being loaded? What are the memory settings in the PHP.ini file?

I had a WP MU site and upgraded with the rc1 version. I had been running the development versin on another server for a while and knew the rc version was in pretty good shape. The upgrade was easy. The only negative was that the Google XML Sitemap plugin was not compatible with 3.0 with the multi-site feature enabled. Hopefully that will be updated soon. Otherwise, 3.0 is a big improvement. The menu tool is great and the ability to mass update the themes and plugins is a great time saver.

It was actually relatively painless to install wordpress. In fact the only real issue I had was various packages not installed, which is solely because of the VPS switch

I'm not looking forward to it, and will most definitely wait for a few minor revision upgrades to be released before upgrading. Still, glad it worked for yourself!
